The Customs Police Department seized more than 300 tons of goods unfit for consumption during the past year in cooperation with partner agencies

Ramallah_10/2/2025: The Customs Police Department dealt with 2,560 cases during 2024 in cooperation with partner civil agencies and the relevant security agencies, within the framework of its vital national role, as the department performs its duties responsibly and efficiently, embodying its commitment to protecting the national economy and ensuring the safety of citizens.
During the past year, the department achieved a series of notable achievements in various fields, which were accomplished despite the challenges, war and successive invasions of Palestinian cities. These achievements began with combating smuggling in all its forms, through protecting local markets from illegal goods and settlement goods, and reaching the strengthening of partnership with governmental and civil agencies, with direct directives from the political level and instructions from the commander of the department, Major General Iyad Barakat, during which it seized approximately 308 tons of expired goods and cosmetics unfit for human consumption and other important cases.
In this statement, we review the most prominent stations and achievements made by the agency thanks to the continuous efforts and tireless work of its officers in the field.
In detail:-
With the aim of protecting the state's resources
In cooperation with the Ministry of Finance to improve revenue collection to support the state treasury and control tax evasion and customs smuggling operations.
The agency dealt with 1194 cases, including:
- 753 tax and customs evasion cases.
- 263 cases of goods coming from Israel without a clearing invoice.
- 178 cases in the field of smuggled and prohibited tobacco.
With the aim of protecting markets:
In cooperation with the Ministry of National Economy, the agency dealt with 892 cases in order to protect markets from the spread of spoiled, expired, counterfeit and settlement goods, during which it seized:
- About 109 tons of expired, unfit for consumption and counterfeit goods, which were handed over to the competent authorities.
- More than 73 tons of goods without a statement card in Arabic and not conforming to specifications and standards (they are food supplies and cosmetics) and were delivered to the competent authorities.
- A quarter ton of mixed goods banned from circulation in the markets as they are settlement goods.
- About (1400) pieces of beads and fireworks banned from circulation due to the real danger they pose to the health and safety of our children.
In order to achieve food security:
In cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the agency dealt with 306 cases in order to provide health security and protect citizens' health from unfit for consumption and spoiled goods, most notably:
- Seizing about 199 tons of expired food and cosmetics and unfit for use and destroying them according to the rules by a decision from the competent authority,
- Seizing about 16.5 tons and about 60 thousand packages of medicines, cosmetics, food supplements and sexual stimulants that do not conform to specifications and standards and do not have the necessary licenses.
In order to protect the Palestinian agricultural sector

In cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Authority dealt with 109 cases that did not have the necessary agricultural and health permits and others that were unfit for human consumption or restricted by a decision from the Ministry, including

- 46 cases of animal products.

- 63 cases of agricultural products.

To fortify the communications sector

In cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, the Authority dealt with 53 cases in order to protect the markets from the spread of Israeli chips, recharge cards and internet devices that are prohibited from circulation and operation within the territories of the Palestinian state, during which it seized:

- 6042 Israeli communication chips and an Israeli recharge card.

- 619 Israeli wireless devices and cellular devices that were transferred to the Ministry because they are prohibited from circulation,

- 598 postal parcels and communications devices that did not have licenses from the Ministry.

In order to protect the Palestinian environment

In cooperation with the Environmental Quality Authority, the Authority dealt with 6 cases in order to protect the Palestinian environment from hazardous waste, whether solid or liquid, that is smuggled from Israel; With the aim of burying or dumping them in the lands of the Palestinian state. During which: -
- 185 tons of construction waste, waste and solid waste were seized.
- 32 plastic tanks containing remnants of chemical materials coming from Israel and were returned to their source.
In the field of awareness and communication with the public:
The Public Relations and Media Department presented (578) awareness lectures that benefited nearly 33 thousand beneficiaries, aiming to raise citizens' awareness of the customs regulations and laws in force, in addition to the dangers of smuggling, in order to enhance cooperation between citizens and the Customs Police Department to protect the national economy and the health and safety of citizens.
