252.5 Tons of Expired and Unfit Goods Seized in February

 

Ramallah, March 5, 2026 - The Customs Police, in cooperation with partner agencies, handled 290 cases during February as part of its efforts to protect markets from the spread of counterfeit, smuggled, and settlement goods, and to safeguard the national economy.

In detail:

105 cases in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance to improve state revenues and bolster the treasury. These cases are broken down as follows:

- 55 tax and customs cases, referring taxpayers to the Ministry to complete their commercial transactions.

- 18 cases of goods arriving from Israel without clearing invoices.

- 32 cases related to smuggled tobacco, which is prohibited from circulation due to its economic harm and the drain it places on the state treasury. In cooperation with the Ministries of Economy and Health, 174 cases were addressed to prevent the spread of counterfeit, adulterated, and settlement goods, and to ensure public health security. These cases included:

- Seizure and destruction of 252.5 tons of expired food, supplies, and cleaning materials.

- Seizure of 60.5 tons of cosmetics, food, beauty products, and pesticides lacking proper labeling and violating mandatory regulations. These items were handed over to the relevant authorities.

- Seizure of 2.2 tons of counterfeit empty plastic containers bearing a well-known brand name and 20 liters of counterfeit energy drinks. These items were impounded pending completion of legal procedures.

- Seizure of 728 packages and approximately 643 kg of prohibited sexual stimulants and cosmetics lacking the necessary licenses. These items were handed over to the relevant authorities.

Five cases were addressed in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture:

- Four cases involving agricultural products and one case involving animal products lacking agricultural transport permits and deemed unfit for consumption. Five cases were handled in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, resulting in the seizure of:

- 181 unlicensed mobile phones and communication devices, and (15 packages, 51 SIM cards, and 2,762 packages of sexual stimulants) – goods prohibited from circulation in the Palestinian market. The seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities.

One case was handled in cooperation with the Environmental Quality Authority, resulting in the seizure of:

- 150 used tires originating from Israel, in violation of applicable Palestinian agreements and laws. These tires were returned to their source.
